A stampede of cowboys

Last night, I witnessed a stampede of cowboys. Early on, I received them twice in a row, which is highly unusual. I won the first hand but lost the second. Later, I lost a good-sized pot to an opponent who'd been dealt cowboys. Later still, I got them again, and won with them again. I ended up making the money by the skin of my teeth. Even though it was a min cash, it was enough to return my overall balance to the blue. That's what I was aiming for :-)

A stampede of cowboys

Last night, I was dealt cowboys (pocket kings) 4 times in 170 hands, better than five times their expected frequency. It was a veritable stampede :-) I made the final table, and then laddered up five spots, into the really big money. That got my overall balance back into the blue. Once again, all is right in my poker world.

A stampede of cowboys

Pocket kings, aka cowboys, are a mighty fine hand. Last night, in the only tournament I entered, I was dealt cowboys three times. That qualifies as a stampede, since I was receiving them at better than 9 times their expected frequency. Strangely enough, it was the same two cowboys each time - the king of hearts and the king of diamonds. Unfortunately, I was only able to win one of those three hands. I ran into a major bad beat on the first one, when an opponent hit a two outer on the river.

A stampede of cowboys

Last night, I was dealt cowboys (pocket kings) 3 times in 38 hands. That means I was getting them at 17.45 times their normal frequency. freq-y :-) Unfortunately, that didn't translate into making the money; I hit the rail when an opponent hit a straight on the river. To add insult to injury, I'd been dealt a big slick, and was an 85.71% favorite to win the hand after the turn.

A stampede of cowboys

Baby cowboys (aka pocket jacks) are very nice, but cowboys (pocket kings) are much nicer. It stands to reason that a stampede of baby cowboys can't hold a candle to a stampede of cowboys. Last night, I had a stampede of cowboys in the final tournament I played, receiving them three times in 109 hands, for a freq factor of 6.08. They essentially ensured that I was going to make the money. My blue distance is now just $345,375 - a mere bagatelle :-)
