There was a time, about 6 years or so ago, when I didn't believe there was such a thing as a bad beat. Silly me :-) Not only is there such a thing, but there's a whole menagerie of them; some are much worse than others. Perhaps the very worst of the lot is the runner runner.

This is an excerpt from my June 30, 2016 post. I was runner runnered on the final hand of the final tournament I played yesterday. I was short-stacked, and shoved preflop with a pair of sevens. I flopped a set, and was in great shape to win the main pot, as the flop was a rainbow with no pairs. The third card of the flop happened to be a diamond. The turn and the river were both diamonds, and I lost to a diamond flush. Whatcha gonna do?

I first used this blog post title on June 30, 2016. Here's an excerpt of what I had to say:

That's when the underdog improbably hits running cards on the turn and river to win the pot.

Last night, I hit the rail when I got runner runnered. I was dealt Tc Qh and the flop came Td Ac Th. My opponent had been dealt 9d 2d. I was a 96.87% favorite to win the pot, but my opponent hit runner runner diamonds. In related news, my blue distance grew to exactly three million.

That's when the underdog improbably hits running cards on the turn and river to win the pot. I was runner runnered in the MTT NLHE I played last night. After the flop, I was a 92.32% favorite. After the turn, I was a 90.91% favorite. After the river, I was out of the tournament.
