Pocket pairs (or pocks, as they're familiarly called) are more memorable than any other holding. When you get dealt the same pocket pair multiple times in a tournament (or in a cash game, for that matter), it never fails to make a strong impression. I've told you before about a blizzard of snowmen. I've told you before about a hurricane of queens. I'm here to tell you now about a frenzy of jacks :-) Contrary to what you might expect, the frenzy didn't occur last night. In fact, it occurred more than a week ago. Nonetheless, the frenzy stuck in my mind and I looked it up tonight. In a stretch of just 39 hands, I was dealt pocket jacks 3 times. That means they were getting dealt to me at 17 times their normal frequency. Thanks in part to that frantic pace, I came in second in that tournament. In other news, my poker doldrums continued last night.
