The hateful eight

I've never seen Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight", but that won't stop me from appropriating its title, yet again :-) In this case, the hateful eight are the eight hands I played in the first tournament I entered yesterday. It was the smallest number of hands I've played in a tournament since I started manually recording the minimum viable hand data. One again, I was dealt baby cowboys on my last hand, and they rode off into the sunset. I fared much better in yesterday's second tournament, making the money. It was only a min cash, but beggars can't be choosy :-)

I've failed to make the money in any of them. This year, my longest streak of tournaments where I've failed to make the money is ten, so that record is in jeopardy.

Last night, my normal train went missing, so I had to take a different one. Instead of a $200,000 buy in, I had to settle for $100,000. Instead of a starting stack of 1,500 chips, I got 5,000. You'd think that would be a welcome change, but the unaccustomed abundance caused me to play too friskily, and I only lasted eight hands. Pitiful! The hateful eight :-)

This is the second time I've used this blog post title. The current hateful eight are my last eight sessions. All of them are losing ones; my aggregate loss is one million play dollars on the nose. I only managed to win a single hand last night, firing four bullets in the process. Near perfect futility :-)

I've never seen Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight", but that won't stop me from appropriating its title :-) In this case, the hateful eight are the hands I played in the first MTT 8-game I entered last night. I joined towards the end of the late registration period; that was my first mistake. On top of that, I ran into a cooler on the very first hand, which removed over half my stack in a New York minute. I made up for this sorry performance by lasting 17 times as long in the next MTT 8-game I played, and getting under the lights.
