Silver lining

Whether I win or lose a session, I'm contracted to write about what happened before being allowed to play another. Who drafted such a nefarious contract? Me :-) It's typically easier to write about winning sessions than losing ones. After losing, I often struggle to find the session's silver lining, but that's what I want to write about.

This is an excerpt from my June 6, 2016 post. Yesterday, I had a losing session, but found a silver lining - I increased my MTT NLHE ITM pct (Multi-Table Tournament No-Limit Hold'Em In The Money percentage) by one hundredth of a percentage point. Not much to crow about, but beggars can't be choosy :-)

Silver lining

I've found a silver lining to my slump. Lately, when I fail to make the money, at least I'm making it to Station 2 (i.e., outlasting at least half of the field). I've now made it to Station 2 in ten straight tournaments. I'm in decent form, even though my results aren't currently showing that.

Silver lining

Whenever I have a losing session, I always look for a silver lining to write about. Sometimes that's a simple task; other times, not so much. This is one of the latter. The best I can come up with for last night's session is that I outlasted more than half of the field. A poor thing, but mine own :-)

The only silver lining to last night's session I can come up with is that I avoided the dreaded 0th place - in other words, I outlasted the late registration period, giving me an official place as soon as I hit the rail. Cold comfort :-)

Silver lining

Although I failed to make the money yet again last night, there was a silver lining. Simply put, it was that I played well. The ironic thing about playing well in tournaments is that very often it involves folding. Last night, I folded 36 of the 40 hands I played, 28 of which I folded before the flop. I missed the money by 3 places.

I lost last night's session, but found a silver lining fairly quickly. It was this - that I had a nonzero high chaparral count. In other words, when I put the absolute values of my hand deltas in descending order, the greatest absolute value came from a hand I won.

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 108 hands and saw flop:
 - 11 out of 18 times while in big blind (61%)
 - 10 out of 18 times while in small blind (55%)
 - 42 out of 72 times in other positions (58%)
 - a total of 63 out of 108 (58%)

Silver lining

With a blog post title like this one, it's pretty easy to guess that I didn't have a winning session last night. The silver lining was that although I hit the felt on hand 36, I was able recoup much of my losses after reupping. Tonight, for a change, I'm going to buy in for the maximum. Maybe that will change my luck :-)

Silver lining

Last night, I hit the felt on the 52nd hand. I then reupped for the max, and played 70 more hands. I didn't get out from under, but did reduce my losses a little bit. For large portions of the night I was card dead. The silver lining I take from the night is that when I order the deltas of the hands by absolute value, the top two deltas are wins. That's a good sign. Five of the top ten absolute value deltas are wins, in fact; that proves I wasn't getting creamed.
