It's always nice to cash in the first tournament you enter in a session; when you do, you're playing with house money. You can reinvest that profit in additional tournaments, and potentially still come out with a profit, even if you fail to cash in any of the others.

This is an excerpt from my December 28, 2019 post. I cashed in the first tournament of yesterday's session, and played a second tournament with house money.

It's always nice to play with house money :-) That's the situation I was in after the first tournament I played last night. I made enough profit to cover firing four bullets in the second tournament; as it turned out, I only fired two. In a way, you could say this whole year I've been playing with house money, since I made such a killing last year.

Last night, I won a pot worth $139,514 with a stealth two pair on hand 4. That rocketed me to the chip lead, giving me "house money" to play with all night. That's what I proceeded to do. Unfortunately, I never caught lightning in a bottle again. When I managed to double up on hand 82, after giving back all but $12,158 of my early profit, I knew it was time to call it a night.

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 83 hands and saw flop:
 - 9 out of 10 times while in big blind (90%)
 - 2 out of 11 times while in small blind (18%)
 - 25 out of 62 times in other positions (40%)
 - a total of 36 out of 83 (43%)
 Pots won at showdown - 2 of 5 (40%)

I've always said that my favorite type of hand is a flush. Esthetically, that's still true. However, in examining my voluminous poker data, a different type of hand emerges head and shoulders above the rest. Not to keep you in suspense, it's a full house. Check out these career numbers:

I love it when I win the first tournament of the night I enter. That means I can play for the rest of the night with house money. Lately I've been gravitating to three tournaments a night. If you win one of the three, you realize a $42,600 profit. Of course, if you stop after winning the first tournament, you come out with a $144,200 profit. But where's the fun in quitting so early? Whenever I win the first one, I figure, rightly or wrongly, that I'm "in the sweetness", and that it would be foolish not to see how far the sweetness will go.
