Going like sixty

My lifetime ITM (in the money) percentage in MTT NLHE is just north of 40. That's a nice one to have, and I intend to maintain it. That's not to say that I can't do better in short bursts, however. I've made the money in twelve of my last twenty tournaments, for a percentage of 60 on the nose. Let's see how long I can stay going like sixty :-)

Tonight, I'm going to quote from an earlier post in which I quoted from an even earlier post. I'll have to use two different colors :-) Here's an excerpt of what I had to say on September 8, 2018:

To make the money in an MTT, you need to outlast roughly 75% of your competitors. Outlasting less than 50% of them would clearly be a failure. However, is there some percentage you could outlast, and still be able to consider it a success of sorts, even though you failed to make the money? I think there is, and I'm pegging it at 60. By this criterion, the first of the two MTT NLHEs I played last night was a success, since I outlasted 61.68% of my opponents :-)

I went like sixty for the duration of last night's session, though I failed to make the money. I have to believe better outcomes are coming my way.

Last night, I had a percentile of 61.84% in the one tournament I entered. As before, I have to believe better outcomes are coming my way.

Last night, I played well in all three of the tournaments I entered, finishing in the 60th percentile or better in each. Unfortunately, I didn't make the money in any of them. I gave myself a handicap in the first two by entering with only a short amount of time left in the late registration period; I'll avoid that mistake tonight.

Overall, I make the money in MTT-R NLHEs at a 33% clip. Every now and then, however, I have bursts where I make the money at a much higher clip. I've made the money in 6 of the last 10 tournaments I've played, meaning I'm going like 60 :-) Last night, it was just a min cash, but I'll take it.

Given that stud tables seat eight players, you should expect to win 1 out of every 8 hands, all things being equal. Of course, things are never equal :-) 1 out of 8 is 12.5 percent. If you can average 2 out of 10, you're doing really well. On Saturday night, I won a whopping 12 of the last 20 hands I played. Friends and neighbors, that's 60 percent. You can't expect to go like sixty all the time, but it sure feels good when you do :-)

- saw sixth street 29 times (63%)
