Cowboys into the sunset

As is so often the case, the most memorable hand of last night's session was the final one. I'd been dealt cowboys (pocket kings) and got all my chips into the middle. I got one caller, who turned over A3o (ace three offsuit). That made me a 70.59% favorite before the flop. Unfortunately, my opponent paired his ace on the flop, and his aces held up. I had nothing to complain about, however, since on the way to that final hand I'd hit a magic flush when I was a decided underdog.

Last night, I got stranded in Carddeadburgh again. My best holding of the tournament came on the final hand. I was dealt pocket kings, shoved, and got one caller. He turned over ATo (ace ten offsuit), so I was a healthy favorite. I had a 70.68% chance of winning. However, my opponent flopped an ace, and his rockets held up. It was cowboys into the sunset for me.

Last night, I hit the rail in the one MTT-R NLHE I played on a hand where I'd been dealt pocket kings. You could say my cowboys rode off into the sunset :-) They ran into a set of eights. Sets are one of the most disguised hands in hold'em. I wasn't too far away from the money when this happened, but have no regrets. If you can't bet your big pocket pairs big, you might as well not play.

This what I had to say the first time I used this blog post title, on December 4, 2017. It applies to last night's session quite well, with several minor differences:

- I was playing an MTT NLHE

- I ran into a set of tens

- I wasn't as near to the money

As you might expect, I have no regrets.

The most memorable hand of last night's session was the final one of the second tournament I entered, when I hit the rail with pocket kings. My cowboys rode off into the sunset when an opponent spiked trip queens on the river. I was a big favorite up until the final card. I can't complain, however; I'd been on the lucky side of a bad beat earlier in the tournament. Not surprisingly, you never hear players complain about winning a hand they should have lost; I don't do that myself. However, lots of players complain bitterly about losing a hand they should have won; I only do that once in a blue moon.

For what I believe is the first time ever, I'm using the same title for two blog posts in a row. The reason is simple - it fits both sessions perfectly. Once again, I hit the rail when my pocket kings were cracked. This time, I was up against two opponents; one had pocket queens and the other had ace king offsuit. Before the flop, I was a 55.77% favorite, the queens were an 18.97% dog, and the offsuit was a 24.64% dog. As fate would have it, the queens hit a set on the flop, and it held up. That result pushed my blue distance to a new personal worst of $6,418,000. The only positive I can come up with is that my 2018 balance is still in the black, although it won't be for much longer if I can't break out of this slump. I'm not worried, though. Peeved, sure, but not worried :-)

The most memorable hand of last night's session was the one that took me to the rail in the first tournament I played. I was dealt cowboys (pocket kings) and rode them into the sunset. I was up against an opponent with pocket rockets. I've now ridden cowboys into the sunset 10 times in my MTT-R NLHE career; this was the second time they lost to pocket rockets.
