Aces out

This is the umpteenth time I've used this blog post title. Last night, in the first tournament I played, I had another aces out. I was dealt pocket rockets, called all in preflop, and went to the river against three opponents. Before the flop, I was a 62.29% favorite, and the other players were 4.35%,  12.47%, and 19.46% dogs. After the flop, I was a 3.78% dog, since one of my opponents had flopped a set of eights. Ouch!

In the last three sessions, I've lost 750,000 play dollars. As bad as that might seem, it only makes it to 24th place on my all-time list. I have a hunch I'm going to make some dough tonight.

Aces out

Last night, I experienced another aces out. This time, I was turned instead of rivered. I ran the numbers, and this is the third time I've had aces out in an MTT-R NLHE. It's not a fun way to exit, but it's certainly an honorable one. I was an 80.68% favorite before the flop, and an 86.77% favorite after the flop. A disastrous turn card made me a 4.55% dog, and I missed the two outer on the river. The good news is, I still made a profit (albeit a small) one on the night, and am still in the blue.

Aces out

The poker gods talk to poker players via unlikelihoods. Certain events are so unlikely that when they occur, you can't help but sit up and take notice. You can't help but feel that someone is trying to tell you something :-) For me, the clearest signal to stop playing for the night is when I hit the rail on a hand where I've been dealt pocket rockets. I call such an occurrence "aces out". Last night, I had an aces out in the fourth sit and go I played, and heeded the call to quit.

Aces out

I first used this blog post title on July 3rd of this year. "Aces out" is what I call it when you hit the rail at a tournament on a hand where you've been dealt pocket rockets. It's a painful way to go. It's even worse when you've been rivered. That's what happened to me in the second sit and go I entered last night. I was a 79.55% favorite after the turn to win the hand, but my opponent spiked trip sevens on the river, and that was all she wrote.

This made me curious to find out how many times I've had aces out in my sit and go no limit hold'em career. The answer? 9 times, in 980 tournaments.

Aces out

Last night, in the first MTT I played, I was dealt rockets on my final hand. I was an 80.81% favorite after the flop. I was an 81.82% favorite after the turn. However, I hit the rail when the river card made a straight on the board, and an opponent had a card which gave him a higher straight. That'a a brutal way to exit a tournament. I'm dubbing it "aces out" :-)
