Lord High Everything Else

"Lord High Everything Else" is the honorific I've come up with for when you place second in an MTT. I've been Lord High Everything Else 10 times in my MTT-R NLHE career, including last night. It's a great feeling :-)

This is an excerpt from my July 19, 2019 post. Last night, I was Lord High Everything Else for the 30th time in my MTT NLHE career. It never gets old :-)

Lord High Everything Else

Last night, for the third time this month, I achieved a Full Monty. I've said it before and I'll say it again, achieving Full Montys never gets old :-) I ended up as Lord High Everything Else. When heads up play began, my opponent had roughly four times as many chips as I did. I battled back and even took the chip lead at one point, but couldn't seal the deal.

Lord High Everything Else

The most memorable hand of last night's session is the one where I was dealt cowboys, got all in against two opponents, flopped a set, and tripled up. Each of them had a ragged ace. That hand shot me up the leaderboard, making it easy to make the money. I made the final table, and ended up Lord High Everything Else.

Lord High Everything Else

Last night, I rode the midnight train nearly to the end of the line, finishing in second place as Lord High Everything Else. I also recorded a Full Monty, and got my overall balance back into the blue. All is right again in my poker world :-)

Lord High Everything Else

On Saturday night, I achieved a Full Monty, finishing in second place as Lord High Everything Else. I nearly achieved a double century, lasting 198 hands. I had an epic heads up battle; it must have lasted at least 40 hands. I started heads up play with roughly 40,000 chips to my opponent's 130,000. On my final hand, I was dealt A8o (ace eight offsuit), and shoved. My opponent called, and turned over A7o (ace seven offsuit). I had him dominated, but he spiked a 7 on the river. At least I got my money in good :-)

Lord High Everything Else

Last night, I was Lord High Everything Else, finishing in 2nd place. It was my fourth Full Monty of the year, and my most profitable session of the year. Also, I'm back in the blue. I can't take too much credit for this one; the deck kept hitting me in the face. I had cowboys (pocket kings) three times, a big slick (ace king) two or three times, and several other premium hands. Tournaments like that are the reward for anyone who plays long enough :-)

Lord High Everything Else

I achieved another Full Monty last night, on the strength of coming in second in the second tournament I entered. Second places and Full Montys never get old :-) I was triple tabling for a good part of the session; what I like most about that is you almost don't have enough time to make a bad decision :-)

Lord High Everything Else

Getting under the lights never gets old. Last night, I did it again, starting the final table in seventh position. I laddered up five spots, finishing in second place. When heads up play began, I had just 10.3% of the chips in play, with 40,046 to my opponent's 348,454. I was able to chip all the way up to 131,346 after 29 heads up hands, but hit the rail just two hands later, when my pocket sevens failed to hold up to my opponent's K5o (king five offsuit). The massive profit I made on the tournament put a huge dent in my 2018 losses, I'm happy to say :-)

Lord High Everything Else

Last night, the poker gods saved me, pulling me back from the edge of the abyss. With their help, I avoided both personal worsts I'd been on a collision course with. For the 30th time in my career, I made a profit of at least a million play dollars in a single session. Any time I finish either first or second in a tournament, I consider myself to be Lord High Everything Else :-)

Lord High Everything Else

Last night, I was Lord High Everything Else. For the third time in my career, I came in first in an MTT-R NLHE. It's a lot of fun being the lord, even though it has little to do with you. It mostly has to do with being annointed by the poker gods. They taketh away, but they also giveth. Last night, they gaveth until it hurt :-)

Lord High Everything Else

I haven't played poker since last Friday, and am really missing it. There were good reasons for this - weekend activities, the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, and an annual get-together with ex-colleagues last night. Tonight, nothing's going to stop me from playing :-) I had my 10th best session ever on Friday, bringing my 2016 balance back into the black. I was Lord High Everything Else in the third and final tournament I entered, ending up in 2nd place. It was the sixth MTT NLHE final table of my career, and third MTT NLHE 6 max final table.

Following the lead of Ted Williams in his 1941 season, when he batted .406, I'm not going to sit out the rest of the year to protect my profit. I'm going to play out the string! Not only that, I'm going to do it at the $50,000 BI+EF stakes. I'm dancing with the one who brung me :-)

Lord High Everything Else

The title of this post is almost identical to that of my post from April 26, 2014, which was "My Lord High Everything Else"; here's what I had to say then:

I never saw a production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado", but learned about the humorous title of one of its characters from a colleague at a former company, when he was describing the career arc of a high-ranking executive in that company. According to my colleague, the executive had progressively gained more and more power, until he finally became "Lord High Everything Else".

In that post, I was ascribing the title to cash game no limit hold'em; that explains the "My". This time, I'm ascribing it to myself :-) The reason why is that last night, that's what I became in the MTT NLHE I entered. I just kept growing my stack, moving up and up until finally I was the chip leader. I made the final table, then made it to heads up. In the end, I had to settle for second place. I won the most play money I'd ever won in an MTT - $815,600. It was timely, too, since I'd lost $200,000 earlier in the session in a cash game. For the first time in my career, I cracked the 99th percentile barrier. I may never play another massive again; there's serious money to be made in $10,000 BI+EF MTTS. Needless to say, I'm very happy with my performance :-)

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 104 hands and saw flop:
 - 10 out of 13 times while in big blind (76%)
 - 8 out of 13 times while in small blind (61%)
 - 29 out of 78 times in other positions (37%)
 - a total of 47 out of 104 (45%)
 Pots won at showdown - 5 of 10 (50%)
Pots won without showdown - 6
